Kolluparuppu
as we call in our kongu region. Kollu means
horse gram in tamil.
Horse gram chutney is a delicious chutney,
we have with rice. Each home in kongunadu will make this chutney atleast once
in a month. This chutneys unique taste comes from raw onion and garlic used to
make it.
I have fond memories of having this chutney
with rice and ghee. My mom usually makes this chutney during holidays, so that
we can have with hot steaming rice and ghee.
Horse gram helps in weight reduction. So
weight watchers can also have this chutney without ghee.
Requirements:
Horse gram – 1 cup
Pearl onions – 15
Chilly – 4
Coriander seeds – 1tsp
Cumin – ½ tsp
Pepper – 5 corns
Garlic - 10
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Oil – 1tsp
Method :
Soak horse gram for thirty
minutes and cook.
Heat oil , roast chilly ,
pepper , cumin .add this tempering to cooked horse gram.
Grind raw onion, garlic , curry leaves along
with cooked horse gram.
Add salt to taste.
Serve this chutney with
steaming rice along with a gallop of ghee. Tastes like elixir.
We Can also have this chutney with dosa. I
like this chutney with crispy dosa mostly.
Wow that's a very good and healthy recipe :) Good one :)
