Newyork Style Vegetable Pizza – Baking Partner

For this month’s Baking partner - 10 , we has to make Newyork style Pizza as suggested by Archana of Tangy Minds.

 This months recipe was the Newyork style pizza with the homemade tomato sauce and the Topping was our choice. Pizza is an oven baked , flat , round bread typically topped with a tomato sauce , cheese and various toppings . Pizza was originally originated in Naples , Italy . This dish has become popular in many parts of the world.In ancient days in Italy people used to keep their bread covered with olive oil , cheese and herbs , this may be the ancestor of the pizza.

  I made a round pizza with the homemade sauce and vegetable toppings.

Requirements :
For thin crust – Dough :
All purpose flour / Bread flour – 4 ½ cup
Sugar – 1 ½ tbs
Salt – 3 tsp
Active dry yeast – 2 tsp
Sugar – 1 tsp
Vegetable oil / olive oil – 3 tsp
Luke warm water – ½ cup
For Newyork style pizza sauce :
Tomatoes – 6
Vegetable oil / olive oil – 1 tbs
Unsalted Butter – 1 tbs
Garlic – 2 cloves ( finely chopped )
Dried oregano – 1 tsp
Red chilli flakes – a pinch
Salt as required
Onion – 1
Sugar – 1 tsp
Basil leaves ( I didn’t use )
Toppings :
Carrot sticks
Potato slices
Capsicum wedges
Onion Wedges
Cherry tomato
Cheese slices

Method :
  This involves two steps making of crust and then assembling the pizza.
Making of sauce :
 If using canned tomatoes can use as it is .
I used fresh tomatoes , so it has to be blanched and remove the skin.
Boil the tomatoes in hot water for 5 – 8 minutes. Let it cool and peel off the skin.
Blend it into a puree with small coarse tomato chunks.

In a pan , add the butter and oil , let it melt.
Now , add the chilli flakes , oregano and a pinch of salt , sauté till fragrance comes out for about 3 minutes.
Add the finely chopped onion and garlic , sauté for few minutes.
The onion will become translucent soft , so that it will merge with the sauce.

Add in the sugar and salt and mix well.
Add in the tomato puree and mix well.

Cook in medium flame until the sauce is reduced to half .
Let it cool and store in refrigerator.

I made the sauce a day before making pizza.
Making of Dough for crust :
 As I was using I has to proof the yeast , so I combined the yeast in the warm water along with a teaspoon of sugar. Let it rest for 15 minutes.

 In a bowl , mix the flour , sugar and salt together.
Add in the oil and proofed yeast water and mix well.
If using food processor , knead for 15 seconds.
I kneaded the dough with the hand – knead till the dough is soft and smooth.
Check the dough whether it is kneaded well by window pan test.
Window pan Test :
 Take a small part of the dough , stretch between the hands into a thin membrane.
This must not tear , if so knead for few more minutes.

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead once or twice till a smooth ball is formed.
Divide the dough into three even parts and cover and refrigerate and allow to rise at least one day and can be upto 5 days.
 I kept it for a day , it is enough.
Making of crust :
 Before two hours of baking , take out the dough from the refrigerator.
Shape the dough into balls by gathering dough towards bottom and pinching shut.
Flour well and place each one in a separate bowl . cover with the plastic wrap and allow to rise at room temperature until roughly doubled in volume.
 Take a dough ball and place it on the baking tray .
Gently press out the dough into a round 8 – inch circle , leaving 1 – inch higher on the edges.

Always spread the dough from inside towards out.
prick holes with the help of fork in the center of the crust for even baking and to avoid fluffing.
Assembling of vegetable pizza:
Spread approximately 2/3 cup of the pizza sauce evenly over the crust , leaving the raised edges.
 I used juvenile cut carrot sticks , capsicum ,onion wedges, cherry tomato .

Place the carrot , capsicum ,onion alternatively. Place the halved cheery tomato in between.
As I used the cheese slice , I cut it into small pieces and added on top.

Place this in the preheated oven @ 220 *C @ convection mode for 20 minutes or till the crust becomes golden brown and cheese is melted.

Take out off the oven, slice and serve immediately.

Newyork style vegetable pizza is ready to serve.

Note :
Any vegetable of your choice can be added.
I prefer adding capsicum as it gives a unique flavor to the pizza.
