Dudhi with Channa dhal / Bottlegourd in Channa dhal

Channa dhal is known as kadalaiparuppu in Tamil . it is used in making masala vadai or payasam or obbattu or sundal. I didn’t prepared any curry with this dhal before . My mom told me to make this way and it was so delicious.

I tried it for the first time and liked it a lot.

In this bottlegourd is used along with the dhal. We had it with rice. It can be served with roti / paratha.

Salt as required
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Tomato – 1
Onion – 1
Chopped ginger – ¼ tsp
Curry leaves – a sprig

Method :
Wash and soak the channa dhal for an hour.
Add this dhal to a vessel along with a cup of water and cook till it is half done.

Add in the chopped bottlegourd and cook till the dhal is cooked .
Mash it with the wooden masher or ladle.
This can be pressure cooked for a whistle adding both together.
Heat oil in a pan ,add the mustard seeds and let it crackle.
Add in the asafoetida and chopped onion , sauté well.
Add in the ginger and chopped green chilles , curry leaves and sauté.

Add the chopped tomato and sauté for a minute.

Let it cook for five minutes.
Add in the turmeric powder , coriander powder , required salt and let it simmer for few more minutes.

Take off from flame and serve.

Chopped coriander leaves can be added.
