Omelet or Omelette is a dish made from
beaten eggs quickly cooked with butter
or oil in a frying pan , some fillings can be added such as cheese , vegetables
, meat or combination of above.
To obtain the fluffy texture , the egg is
beated along with milk or cream or water. Some add baking powder to get the
fluffiness, we won’t add the baking powder usually uses milk. The bubbles
formed while beating makes the omelet light and fluffy.
Omelets may be
fully cooked or partially without flipping to other side.
This Indian omelet is often called as masala omelet
as it is made with the addition of spices which vary from region to region. Most
commonly used are finely chopped green chillies , onion , coriander leaves or
powder , cumin , turmeric and pepper , whisked along with egg and cooked in a
griddle or pan.
Many birds
eggs are consumed by human , that include hen’s egg , duck egg and quail egg.

Hen’s eggs are
most commonly eaten eggs. It is a good source of essential amino acids for
human and several vitamins and minerals including retinol ( vitamin A) ,
riboflavin ( vitamin B2 ) , folic acid ( vitamin B9 ) , vitamin B6 ,vitamin B12
, , choline , iron , calcium , phosphorous and potassium.
Egg’s vitamins
A , D and E are in its yolk. Egg is one of the few foods which naturally
contains vitamin D. choline which is present in the yolk is an essential
nutrient for development of brain , so it is to be included in the diet of
pregnant and nursing women to ensure healthy fetal brain development.
Requirements :
Egg – 2 nos
Milk- 4 tbsp
Chopped Tomato- 2 tbsp
Chopped Onion –
2 tbsp
Green chilly -
1
Curry leaves –
5 leaves
Black Pepper powder -
1 tsp
Salt - ¼ tsp
Oil - ½ tsp
Method :
Break the eggs
in to a bowl and add the milk.
Add finely
chopped onion, curry leaves , tomato and green chilly.
Whisk well and then add pepper powder and
required salt. Mix well.
Heat the griddle;
pour the oil followed the egg mixture.
Cook in medium
flame.
Flip to other
side and cook till it is done.
Indian omelet is ready to serve.
