Mohanthal – Lord Krishna’s Favourite

Mohanthal was the famous sweet of north India . It is somewhat  similar to Besan burfi.

Mohanthal is a sweet fudge made from roasted gram flour and ghee. It is offered to lord Krishna , to seek his blessings. It is a popular sweet during Diwali festival.

Requirements :
Besan / Gram flour – 1 small cup
Ghee – 2 tbs
Milk – ½ cup
Sugar – ¼ cup
Water – ½ cup
Cardamon powder – apinch
Chopped almonds
Khuskhus / poppy seeds

Method :
In a bowl , add the besan flour , a spoon of ghee and a spoon of milk , mix well . It will be in the form of crumble.

Mix the sugar and water together. Bring it to boil. Make into a syrup of two string consistency.
Melt the remaining ghee in a pan , add this besan mixture and mix well.

Keep stirring till the raw smell leaves . By this time , the besan will turn into slightly brown color.
Add in the milk and mix well. Keep stirring.
When all the milk and besan mixture are mixed well, add the sugar syrup and mix.
Keep stirring till the sugar syrup is fully blended with the besan mixture.

By this time , it won’t stick to the pan. Take off from flame.
Pour into a greased flat tray. Sprinkle chopped nuts.

Let it partially cool and cut into desired shape.

Mohanthal is ready to serve.

Enjoy this delicious sweet fudge……

Note :
I didn’t add the poppy seeds as I won’t like its raw flavor.
Any nuts can be added to this fudge.
