Vallaipoo vadai ( plantain blossom fritters )



     This vallaipoo vadai is a popular snack in tamil nadu. This vadai is similar to masal vadai the only difference is the addition of valaipoo. Adding valaipoo enhances the taste.
     My dad loves to have it. He asks me to make this vadai whenever he brings valaipoo from our farm.
      I  made this when my relatives came to visit us , my cousin sister who is not interested in having fried snacks , ate and appreciated me.
 This is the story how this vadai becomes regular snack in our home.
Requirements :
Channa dhal ( kadalai paruppu) – 500 g
Valaipoo -  1 cup
Onion – 3
Curry leaves – 3 sprig
Green chilly – 4
Dry chilly – 6
Aniseeds – 1 tbs
Cinnamon – 2 ’’ piece
Garlic – 10 cloves
Ginger  - 4 ’’piece
Salt to taste
Oil for frying


Method :
Chop the cleaned valaipoo.
Soak channa dhal for about half an hour and drain.
Grind cinnamon , garlic , ginger , green chilly ,aniseeds to fine paste.
Grind channa dhal coarsely without water.
In a large bowl , mix grounded channadhal , chilly masala paste , chopped onion , curry leaves , chopped valaipoo and  required salt .
Make the dough into small balls.
Heat oil in a kadai  for frying.
Take each ball , press between the hands , put into the hot oil slowly.
Deep fry till golden brown on both sides.
Crispy Valaipoo vadai is ready to serve.
