Thayir vadai / Urad dhal fritter soaked in curd



 Thayir vadai is famous southindian snack . In north india , it is called as dahi ballae which is served along with chutneys.
Here in south, these vadas are soaked in curd and tempering is added for taste. In every southindian hotels , it will be in the menu. Another famous option of this vada is the sambar vada.
 I am sharing here my mom’s version of thayir vada , it is different from hotel recipe. It is healthy and tasty .

 Requirements :
Urad  dhal kara vada –  2
Curd – 1 cup
Salt to Taste
Grated carrot  – 2 tbs
Coriander leaves – ½ tbs
Curry leaves – a sprig
Oil – 1 tsp
 Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Asafetida – a pinch
Whole red chilli – 1
Chopped onion – 1 tbs
Onion Rings for garnishing
Salt to taste
Method :
Soak the vada in warm water for 10 minutes.
In a bowl , add the curd required salt and beat well.
Add in the chopped onion and grated carrot , mix well.
Remove the vada from water and squeeze the excess water.
Add this vada to the curd mixture and soak for ten minutes.
Heat oil , add the mustard seeds and let it splutter.
Add in the hing , curry leaves and red chilli.
Add this tempering to the vada.

Sprinkle the grated carrot , curry leaves , coriander leaves and onion rings.
Thayir vada is ready to serve.
It can also be served chill. It will be excellent during this hot summer.
