Red Velvet Cake


 

 Cake  is a form of bread or bread – like food. In its modern forms , it is typically a sweet baked dessert .In its oldest forms , cakes were normally fried breads or cheesecakes , and normally fried breads or cheesecakes, and normally had a hard disk shape.  
 Modern cake , especially layer cakes , normally contain a combination of flour , sugar , eggs and butter or oil , with some varieties also requiring liquid ( typically milk or water ) and leavening agents ( such aas yeast or baking powder ). Flavorful ingredients like fruit pur`ees, nuts, dried or candied fruit  or extracts are often added and numerous substitutions for primary ingredients are possible. Cakes are often filled with fruit preserves or dessert sauces like pastry cream , iced with buttercream or other icings and decorated with candied fruit.
 Cakes is often the dessert of choice for meals at ceremonial occasions , particularly weddings , anniversaries and birthdays.
 There are countless cake recipes ; some are bread like , some rich and elaborate.
 Red velvet cake is a cake with the dark red , bright red or red brown color. It is traditionally prepared as a layer cake topped with cream cheese or cooked roux icing . the reddish color is achieved by adding red food coloring.
 Common ingredients include buttermilk , butter , flour , cookie dough for the filling , cocoa and beetroot or red food coloring. The amount of cocoa used varies in different recipes. Cream cheese frosting and buttercream frosting are commonly used.


 In olden days , beetroot pur`ee is used in this cake for its color.

  Requirements :

All purpose flour – 2 cup

Brown sugar – 1 cup

Cocoa powder – 2 tbs

Butter – ¼ cup

Yogurt – 1 cup

Red food color – 1 tbs

Vanilla Essence – 1 tbs

Baking powder – 1 tsp

Baking soda – ½ tsp

Lemon juice – 2 drops


Method :

Sift the flour , baking powder , cocoa powder , baking soda together twice.

In a bowl , beat the butter and brown sugar well for about 5 minutes.

Add the yogurt , lemon juice  and vanilla essence, mix well.

Mix in the red food colour.

Divide the flour mixture into three .

 Fold  in the flour mixture to the wet ingredients in batches.

Grease the baking mould.

Preheat the oven to 220 degree Celsius.

Pour the batter into the mould.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or till the inserted tooth pick comes out clean.


Let it cool .

After the cake is completely cooled, dust icing sugar over the cake.










Icing can be done .








 Cake is ready to serve.




Note :

Castor sugar can also be used instead of brown sugar.

Buttermilk can be substituted for yogurt.
